Radial pressure (shockwave) therapy for foot and ankle pain | Brisbane Podiatrist Woolloongabba near CBD

At The Podiatry Practice, we try to use the best new evidence-based treatments to assist our patients with foot and ankle pain. One treatment that has gained significant attention in recent years has been the use of ‘shockwave’ therapy, to treat recurrent or chronic tendon, ligament and soft tissue disorders. Shockwave therapy is a form of ultrasound treatment which utilises high pressure sound waves to penetrate through skin and into areas of inflammation or injury. It has now become one of the leading options for the management of soft tissue musculoskeletal pain.

There are two forms of pressure shockwave therapy: radial shockwave and extra-corporeal shockwave therapy. Both types are very similar in their mode of action and use, but after much research we determined that the best option for our patients was to purchase a machine capable of performing the former.

Please see below for an interesting YouTube clip by Ele Lentakis which demonstrates the ease and simplicity of this therapy. If you have chronic conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, or other similar problems, this approach may be highly beneficial for you.
