Back to School – Advice for Parents

Its that time of year again, and we have been seeing a large number of children in the weeks leading up to the start of the school year. Mums and dads have been consistently searching for advice on what are the best school shoes for their kids.

Firstly, there is no need to spend a fortune on children’s school shoes – though the old maxim of “you get what you pay for” does hold true. Unlike adult shoes, children are far more likely to outgrow their shoes before they wear out, so its not the end of the world if you compromise a little on durability – especially if you are on a budget with a horde of school age kids to buy for.

We are always impressed with Clarke’s and Ascent, but they are on the higher end of cost. If you are looking for most price friendly options, try to check that the heel counter if firm, and the shoe bends at the start of the toes, rather than in the middle. This means there will be more support. Generally lace ups are always more preferrable that velcro, but in the early school years its not usually a concern.
