Computerised Gait Analysis is a powerful assessment tool
Our practise utilises the latest in high-tech computerised gait analysis. The TOG GaitScan System is a state-of-the-art foot pressure assessment tool, which is linked to sophisticated software to enable us to accurately assess your foot and gait function for specific problems. This allows us to analyse the way you stand, walk and run, so that we can best predict how to manage your problem. We will perform a GaitScan in-conjunction with a physical assessment of your biomechanics prior to prescribing your foot orthoses or other mechanical therapies. For our patients with diabetes, this also allows us to accurately predict the location of any potential areas of ulceration due to peripheral neuropathy, so that we can instigate treatment to prevent these limb-threatening breakdowns. Foot orthoses (also called shoe orthotics) are
custom designed inserts that sit within your shoes to correct or accommodate
your foot or lower extremity condition. They are not 'arch supports', but
custom designed medical aids to improve the performance and function of the foot
whilst you are standing and walking.
Foot orthoses are generally made from a plaster impression of the foot, which forms the basis for the device. An orthotic laboratory then makes the device according to a prescription written by the podiatrist to correct the way you feet are functioning. Your podiatrist will give you specific advice as to whether your condition will be suitable for treatment with foot orthoses.
