Anthony Short gains Fellowship and Endorsement

In the past few weeks, The Podiatry Practice is pleased to announce that Anthony Short has been fortunate to receive two important changes to his qualifications.

Firstly, Anthony was fortunate to be elected to the title of Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow. He is one of only a small handful of Australian podiatrists to be conferred with Fellowship with the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of this prestigious institution. The Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow is one of a small number of historic Royal medical colleges, and has only opened its doors to podiatrists to become members or Fellows in recent years.

Additionally, Anthony was only recently the first general podiatrist in Queensland to receive endorsement from the Podiatry Board of Australia to use scheduled medicines such as antibiotics, analgesics, corticosteroids and other medications. The Minister for Health, Lawrence Springboard only recently made amendments to Queensland laws to allow podiatrists with suitable qualifications to use these types of medications, and Anthony’s qualifications and knowledge were recently assessed through a vigorous process administered by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHRPA).

These recent legislative changes now enable suitably qualified podiatrists in Queensland to prescribe, supply or administer a range of restricted medications in the treatment of foot and lower extremity conditions. Anthony is now actively involved (along with Dr Paul Bennett and Dr Lloyd Reed) in the design and delivery of the postgraduate Certificate in Podiatric Therapeutics run by the Queensland University of Technology, which will now assist other Queensland podiatrists to also receive endorsement from the Board.
